Apia Bay walking trail
The Apia bay suspension bridge trail, which leaves right from the centre of Valkeakoski, is one of the most easily accessible walking trails in the Pirkanmaa region.
The illuminated path goes around Apia bay, which is located on the east side of the town centre of Valkeakoski. Beginning from the town centre, the path first goes over the Putaansilta bridge, and then through the charming Pässinmäki area of old wooden houses. The trail continues past the Valkeakoski open-air theatre, the adventure park and the Apianlahti camping site. After that, you reach the breath-taking views of the picturesque suspension bridges, park pathways and staircases, while following the trail in the woods across the canals of Apia. The suspension bridges open up stunning lake views both across Apia bay and towards lake Mallasvesi and Pälkäne. On the suspension bridge, you also have a front row seat to watch fly-fishers lure in fish from the river stream.
Finally, the path follows the shoreline past the Kirjaslampi swimming pond and the traditional dance pavilion, hotel Waltikka and the guest piers, all the way back to the town centre.
The trail is about 3,3 km long. The path is made of asphalt and gravel, and is in good condition. The stairs on the suspension bridges have ramps for bicycles and strollers. However, due to steepness, they are not wheelchair accessible.
